Creamy caramelized onion mix (Print Version)

Smooth, flavorful mix of caramelized onions, cream cheese, and sour cream for easy dips and snacks.

# What You'll Need:

→ Onions

01 - 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
02 - 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
03 - 1 teaspoon light brown sugar

→ Flavorings

04 - 1 clove garlic, minced
05 - 2 tablespoons dry white wine (e.g., Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc)
06 - 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
07 - 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

→ Dip Base

08 - 140 grams (5 ounces) cream cheese, brick style, softened
09 - 120 milliliters (½ cup) sour cream
10 - 60 milliliters (¼ cup) mayonnaise
11 - Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

# Steps to Follow:

01 - Melt butter in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add sliced onions and brown sugar. Cook slowly, stirring frequently, until onions turn deep golden brown, about 30 to 40 minutes. If browning too quickly, reduce heat and add a splash of water to deglaze the pan.
02 - Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute. Pour in white wine, scraping up browned bits from the pan. Add apple cider vinegar and Worcestershire sauce. Cook until liquid reduces and mixture is thickened. Remove from heat and cool completely.
03 - In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, sour cream, and mayonnaise until smooth and creamy.
04 - Fold the cooled caramelized onion mixture into the creamy base. Season liberally with salt and black pepper.
05 - Refrigerate the dip for at least 1 hour to allow flavors to meld. Garnish with reserved caramelized onions if desired. Serve with baguette slices, chips, crackers, pretzels, or raw vegetables.

# Additional Notes:

01 - For best flavor, prepare the dip at least several hours ahead or the day before serving. Low and slow cooking of onions ensures deep caramelization without burning.
02 - Use a light-colored pan to better monitor the color changes of onions and prevent burning.
03 - Substitute chicken or vegetable broth for white wine for a non-alcoholic version.
