01 -
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt. Add warm milk, melted butter, and egg; stir until a sticky dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
02 -
Mix softened butter, minced garlic, dried oregano, dried basil, and salt in a small bowl until smooth and fragrant.
03 -
Roll the risen dough into a large rectangle approximately the size of a standard baking sheet. Spread the garlic herb butter evenly over the surface, then sprinkle mozzarella and cheddar (or Parmesan) cheese generously on top.
04 -
Roll the dough tightly from the long edge into a log. Slice the log lengthwise into two long strips. Twist the two pieces together carefully to expose the layers of cheese and herbs. Place the twisted dough into a greased loaf pan or on a lined baking sheet.
05 -
Cover the shaped loaf and let rest for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Bake the loaf for 30 minutes or until golden brown and cheese is bubbling.
06 -
Allow the bread to cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm to enjoy the gooey cheese and fragrant garlic herb layers.
